Ring Joint Flanges
Grade 304 flanges are the most generally used, and they contain 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel by weight in their construction. Slip-on flanges, such as the ANSI B16.5 Alloy Steel Slip-On Flange, are designed to allow pipes to slip onto the flange and create connections in precise positions. A ring-type joint flange (RTJ) is a machined metallic ring with a deep groove bored into its face used to connect two pieces of pipe. When the connecting bolts of the flange are tightened, a metal ring is inserted into this groove and is crushed as a result. The consequence of this compression is a leak-proof, tight-fitting seal on the pipe or connector.
